Public Affairs Manager

Excellent Career Opportunity for a Scientist Interested in Public Policy

This AGU staff manager works with members worldwide and counterparts in other scientific societies to ensure that there is appropriate input from the Earth and space science community to support sound public policy decisions.

Many of the policy issues of concern to AGU and its membership have no geographic or geopolitical boundaries. A major challenge for the coming 2 years is to move AGU's public affairs program from its past primary focus on governmental entities in the United States to a broader world view.

The basis of AGU's public affairs activities is Council-adopted position statements on science relevant to public policy. This manager coordinates the international panels that develop these statements and then promotes the distribution and use of the adopted statements. This individual also supports the AGU Committee on Public Affairs and any subcommittees it may form.

The successful candidate will have an advanced degree in a discipline related to the Earth and space sciences and excellent communications skills with a demonstrated ability to translate scientific material easily and effectively for an educated audience. The selected individual will work at AGU headquarters in Washington, D.C.

This position will be filled as soon as an appropriate candidate is identified.

AGU is Metro-accessible and offers a competitive salary and exceptional benefits package. Qualified candidates are invited to apply directly online at: http://careers.agu.org
