Council: Union and Section Officers

The Council sets overall Union policies, authorizes major changes in programs, and in general attends to the scientific and organizational health of AGU. The Council exercises the full legal and fiduciary responsibilities of the board of directors of any corporation. The members of Council are the six Union officers, eleven Section Presidents, and eleven Section Presidents-Elect.

Each Section is led by its President, President-Elect, and one or more secretaries. The Sections have the authority to act on matters that pertain solely to them individually. Matters that extend beyond the purview of a single Section are the responsibility of the Council.

The specific duties of the various officers are described in Statutes and Bylaws. This document also states any constraints placed on the actions of Council.
