Groundbased 889 nm images obtained by H.B. Hammel and R.P. LeBeau with the University of Hawaii's 2.2 meter Mauna Kea telescope (see the Planetary Report, 1994, vol. 14, no. 2, 21.) show that the atmosphere of Neptune has brightened in the north when compared with similar data obtained during the Voyager 1989 epoch. Searches of the WFPC-1 archived images by L. Sromovsky, P.M. Fry and S.S. Limaye (1994) show no definite evidence of the Great Dark Spot or of the white companion cloud. Future observations with WFPC-2 should help to establish the transient nature of the Neptunian cloud systems.
