Volcanic Landforms

Magellan has provided a high resolution view of many of the volcanic landforms such as large shield volcanoes, the numerous small (<20 km diameter) volcanic constructs, and large fields of lava flows seen in Arecibo and Venera 15/16 data. In this section, discussion is concentrated on features that are indicative of plains formation and large-scale eruptions of magma onto the surface; the latter may represent resurfacing activity postulated to explain Venus' unusual impact cratering record.
