Implementation: Integrated Models of Zooplankton Transport and Secondary Production

The use of molecular characteristics to assist with the prediction of secondary production and harvestable yields for commercial fisheries in marine ecosystems is conceivable in the near future. Implementation will require intensive studies to characterize the genetic make-up of populations across the relevant domain. The best means to achieve predictive capabilities based on population genetic analyses is through incorporation of genetic characteristics into coupled biological/physical models of population dynamic processes in the ocean. Several examples of integrative models exist, including one based on biogeographic principles [ Olson and Hood, 1994].
